What is a Warrior?
By definition, a Warrior is:
1. a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier.
2. a person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.
Therefore one might think that a Culture of Warriors would be experienced in warfare, trained and forged and in combat or courageous and agressive, who might run into a burning building no matter the risk or reward. All true in some respect, but that's not all of what a culture of warriors is and aspires too.
As Americans, we are a Nation of fighters. From the founding fathers who stood up for the cause of a nation to those who stand on the footsteps of state capitals rallying for equal rights to those who bravely stood in the face of certain death and evil on the beaches of Normandy. We are a Nation of fighters, not only for our own well being, but for the well being of others. In no other nation do I see reports of men and women, strangers and friends who consistently put themselves in harms way for the safety of others with no care or concern for themselves I see no other Country who's standing Military is VOLUNTARY and yet the ranks swell with the brave men and women who will go to ANY foreign shore and face any adversary to protect the very rights their predecessors fought for and yet ask nothing but the respect and gratitude of the people they so gladly defend. We ARE a nation of fighters.
Nothing better illustrates this in the modern era like that of September 11th. That day, more men and women died because of their selfless acts at one time then in any other time in history. These men and women rushed headlong, like the definition of warrior, with great vigor, courage and aggressiveness, into the complete unknown and ended up saving the lives of hundreds of people they did not know just for the simple fact that they knew no better. They thought not of themselves but of the greater good and lost their lives in the service of others. Warriors? You damn well better believe it.
I look at what this Nation is right now, it is divided, it is toxic. There are people fighting on one side and there are those fighting equally as hard on the other, all for the causes they hold so dear. Fighting. I see our Military who've been in harms way for over 10 years, still fighting for Freedom, still fighting for the man or women next to them. Fighting. I also see the fight they have when they return home with jobs, PTSD, injuries. Fighting. There are so many people fighting for a fair shake, a better life for them and their family, but all the while putting up the fight of their lives. Fighting.
When you open your eyes to the reality that is our world today, we have a distinct advantage as a culture. The seeds were sewn many years ago of a spirit of courage in the face of adversity, in the face of religious persecution, of taxes and tyranny. We, the people of the United States are a people born of the fight, ripened by years of faith and a feeling of duty, courage and honor to our fellow man. We are alive in the fact that we will never go quietly into that good night, that we will ALWAYS fight for what we believe is right.
I am a Warrior, and WE my friends, are a Warrior Culture.
